Spending 3 nights camped at Cuttaburra Crossing - north of Birdsville in outback Queensland -  proved to be a birder's delight. We spent the first day in our zodiac trying to make some headway into the many tributaries of Eyre Creek usually coming to a dead end. However, day 2 we headed in a different direction and after a considerable amount of time finally came around a bend to find ourselves confronted by literally hundreds of juvenile and adult Pelicans. Not only were the Pelicans amazing but we were surrounded by trees with nesting Spoonbills, Nankeen Night Herons and many other waterbirds. We sat in amazement for a long time - just soaking up this incredible experience. Pelicans follow the food - so I imagine a week later they would have moved on - the water was teeming with tiny fish and crustaceans but growing birds need plenty of food so …….
