Elegance is the first word that comes to mind when one first encounters these beautiful African birds. I've seen them in both Mozambique and Zambia. In Mozambique pairs were quite plentiful on the floodplains of Gorongosa National Park and then we had the wonderful experience of observing a huge breeding group in wetlands in the Nsefu section of the South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. Their "crowns" are extraordinarily beautiful.
